Reflection
As a librarian I know how important it is to teach good digital citizenship and how to be safe when using the internet. It is also important for me to model good digital citizenship as my students will look to me for guidance. I feel that these activities were created and completed with my students in mind as I want to make sure they understand their actions online can follow them in the real world and just because it happens online does not mean that it will stay online.
When thinking about internet safety the first thing that pops into my mind is internet privacy and how to keep your information safe or from getting into the wrong hands. In IT 610 we were required to complete our partner’s web quest and the web quest I completed was about internet privacy. Please view the slideshow video that I created to go along with what I learned from my partner’s web quest.
Also for IT 610 we were required to create our own web quest on a topic that dealt with ethical uses of the internet. I chose cyber bullying because it is close to my heart as a parent and an elementary school librarian. Cyberbullies are everyone today from children to adults and it is our job as their role models to teach them what the effects of cyber bullying could be. When students use any resource to gain more information and to present said information they must understand the consequences of not citing their sources. The concept map of Copyright and Plagiarism depicts the information that was gained from reviewing a classmate’s paper on the topic. As a librarian it is my job to teach students how and why they should cite the resources they use. I work in an elementary school so sometimes it is difficult for them to understand the repercussions however I still introduce the information to them so that when they move on to the middle school it is not a foreign concept.

Future Goals
Internet safety and proper use of resources gained from the internet is something that I take very serious. I currently teach these concepts to my 3rd-5th grades and am always looking for more ways to integrate new information into my lessons. As a professional I earned certificate of Digital Citizenship completion from www.commonsensemedia.org and I display it proudly as I want my students to know that I take digital citizenship serious.
